How we research, write, and update what you read here

Gen X Life Hub is written for adults helping a parent through care, money, legal, and housing decisions. Because people act on what we publish, we hold ourselves to a few rules.

Who writes it. The site is written and edited by the Gen X Life Hub team, based in Chicago’s Northwest Suburbs. We are not attorneys, physicians, or financial advisors, and nothing on the site is legal, medical, or financial advice. Read the full disclaimer.

Where facts come from. We start with primary sources: the Illinois Department on Aging, the Illinois Department of Healthcare and Family Services, the Illinois Department of Public Health, the Social Security Administration, Medicare.gov, township and village websites, and area agency on aging publications.

How we check. Guides on Medicaid, Medicare, powers of attorney, and property tax help are checked against the agency or statute they describe. Local pages show a last-verified date and a next-review date, and anything we couldn’t confirm is marked so you know to call first.

Advertising. Advertisers don’t influence what we write, and businesses cannot pay to remove or change information. Paid placements are marked Sponsored or Featured. We don’t sell your data.

Corrections. If something is wrong, tell us through the contact page. We fix factual errors quickly.

How we keep pages current

Program numbers change every year: Medicare premiums, Social Security, Medicaid limits, property tax exemptions. Each guide shows a “last verified” date. We review pages with dollar figures at least once a year, and right after the agency announces new numbers (for example, Medicare amounts each fall).

How we choose topics

We write about the questions families in the Northwest Suburbs actually run into when a parent needs help: paying for care, Medicare and Medicaid, legal paperwork, housing changes, and caregiver burnout. We favor local, practical detail, like which agency to call and what to bring, over general advice.

Links to other sites

We link to government agencies, nonprofits, and official program pages first. Links to businesses are informational. We don’t accept payment for links in our guides.

Our own products

We sell a few printable organizers through our store. They’re labeled as ours wherever they appear, and every guide on the site stays free to read.

AI and writing tools

We may use software tools to help draft or organize content. Every page is reviewed by our editorial team, and facts, numbers, and phone numbers are checked against primary sources before publishing.
